Objectives (course unit)
The student is able to
- collect and handle various samples, evaluate their validity and ensure correct preanalytical conditions
- use the main laboratory systems of the training place
- know the analysis and operating principles of the most common analysers and automation lines in laboratory production
- interpret the information provided by the laboratory information systems
- understand the validation rules of the results and apply them to evaluate the reliability of the results and possible follow-up actions
- understand the calibration and control practices used in the quality management of the training laboratory and the principles of auto-validation
- apply theoretical knowledge of clinical chemistry at different stages of the analysis process and in evaluating the test results
- use the most common analysers and manual methods
- evaluate the quality of the samples, perform analysis and report results of laboratory tests in accordance with the guidelines
- work as a member of a team, following the rules of the work community
- pay attention to occupational safety, ergonomics, and ethical and economic aspects in their work and interaction situations
Content (course unit)
Supervised training includes working in a clinical chemistry laboratory. The content of the training can vary depending on the training placement.
Prerequisites (course unit)
Prior to the commencement of professional training, all pre-clinical studies in Clinical Chemistry must be passed.
Further information (course unit)
The course is implemented as a practical training in clinical laboratories of hospitals as a professional training, supervised practice.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)
The student is able to
- work carefully, systematically, safely, aseptically and economically
- evaluate the validity of the sample
- know the principles of basic automation, calibrations and controls and is able to perform the necessary maintenance
- know the manual methods used in production
- identify urine particles independently at basic level, identify also some advanced level findings and perform potential quick tests
- handle body fluid samples correctly and perform cell and particle counts using a Burker chamber
- evaluate the reliability of test results and the need for possible reanalysis and further actions
- perform different stages of quality assurance
- show initiative, ability to cooperate and interest in professional development
- operate according to agreed procedures and take responsibility for his/her actions
- evaluate realistically their own activities and take advantage of received feedback
