Objectives (course unit)

Students
-are able to define concepts and main principles related to radiation protection and apply them in practice
-are able to recognize, evaluate and minimize the risks of the use of radiation and are able to prepare for unconventional radiation situations and operate in them
-are able to carry out and control radiation protection related to his/her competence field in accordance with legislations and regulations, including members of staff and population
-are able to instruct in the safe use of radiation and implementation of new methods and optimization
-are able to develop the safety culture of the use of radiation as for his/her part in co-operation with RSE

Content (course unit)

-basics of radiation physics
-measuring technology and calculatory methods in determination of the radiation exposure in diagnostic radiography
-radiation protection in diagnostic radiography
-demands of radiological equipment, acquisition and maintenance in diagnostic radiography

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass means that the student has to achieve the limit of 75% of every part.
Pass:
-the student can apply concepts and main principles related to radiation protection correctly in practice
-the student can explain how the risks of the use of radiation are evaluated and minimized in tooth, native and animal x-ray examinations
-the student can operate in unconventional radiation situations
-the student can carry out and control radiation protection related to his/her competence field in accordance with legislations and regulations
-the student can explain how the radiation is safely used, how new methods are brought into use and what are the methods of optimization
-the student can explain how the safety culture of the use of radiation is developed in co-operation with RSE
-the student can use the right measuring technology and calculatory methods in the determination of radiation doses

Fail:
-there are shortcomings in the definition of the concepts related to radiation protection and the principles of the use of radiation and because of that the student is not able to apply them in practice
-the student cannot explain how the risks of the use of radiation are evaluated and minimized in tooth, native and animal x-ray examinations
-the student does not know the contents of national legislations concerning the use of radiation and the contents of official orders so that he/she would be able to apply them in tooth, native and animal x-ray examinations
-the student cannot explain the preparation for unconventional radiation situations and the operation in connection with them
-the student cannot explain how radiation is safely used, how new methods are brought into use and what are the methods of optimization
-the student cannot explain how the safety culture of the use of radiation is developed in co-operation with RSE
-the student cannot use the right measuring technology and calculatory methods in the determination of radiation doses
