Radiotherapy, Clinical Training (8 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

Students
-are able to plan, carry out, document and evaluate radiotherapy of cancer patients under guidance in the clinical training
-can carry out appropriate radiation protection of patients, staff and other people in radiotherapy
-are able to act appreciatively and respectfully towards patients and their relatives as well as co-workers
-are interested in learning radiotherapy, are able to reflect their own skills and have a positive attitude towards continuously developing themselves

Content (course unit)

-Clinical Practice in Radiotherapy department according to students personal aims

Prerequisites (course unit)

-accepted theoretical studies of the study module
-adequate knowledge in Computed Tomography Examinations
-Clinical Trainings according to the personal curriculum must be done

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass:
-acts according to the radiographer's ethical instructions
-shows initiative and is cooperative
-can guide the patient and can as a member of a team plan, carry out, document and evaluate radiotherapy of a cancer patient
-can guide the patient and can function as a member of the team in situations related to radiation protection (patient, staff, escort and working environment)
-can operate radiological and radiotherapy equipment safely and appropriately
-is able to create confidential interaction and care relations with the patients
-works according to radiation safety
-is able to do realistic self-assessment, receives feedback and instructions

Fail:
-does not follow agreed working hours
-withdraws repeatedly from learning situations
-does not get through directed of the most general radiotherapy treatments
-endangers patient safety repeatedly
-does not follow privacy protection procedures
-does not observe an aseptic way of action
-there are factors which endanger safety in the use of radiological and radiotherapy equipment
-there are repeatedly shortcomings in situations which are related to radiation protection
-does not show interest in his/her own learning related to radiotherapy
-cannot act professionally in the work community

Ammattitaitoa edistävä harjoittelu sädehoito-osastolla ja harjoitteluun liittyvä kirjallinen tehtävä.

Student workload

Ammattitaitoa edistävä harjoittelu on 8 op, 216 h opiskelijan työtä, josta 38 tuntia/viikko (5 viikkoa, 190 h) suoritetaan sädehoito-osastolla ja loput 26 tuntia on varattu tavoitteiden, itsearvioinnin sekä kirjallisen tehtävän laatimiseen.

Ennen sädehoidon harjoittelua tulee olla vähintään 1 viikko TT-harjoittelua suoritettuna.

-osaa ohjata potilasta ja toimia työryhmän jäsenenä säteilyturvallisuuteen liittyvissä tilanteissa (potilas, henkilökunta, saattaja ja työympäristö)
-osaa käyttää kuvantamis- ja sädehoitolaitteita turvallisesti ja tarkoituksenmukaisesti
-pystyy luomaan luottamuksellisia hoito- ja vuorovaikutussuhteita potilaiden kanssa
