Objectives (course unit)

After completing the study unit, the student is able to
- implement counselling as a process and steer the discussion towards the goal
- ensure that the decisions made during counselling are those of the person receiving guidance
- ensure that a clear and concrete plan of action or an idea of how to move forward is prepared during the counselling discussion
- support the agency, choices and career progress of the person receiving guidance
- expertly guide students to seek further education or employment
- tell the difference between sharing information, advising and guidance counselling and know how to use them appropriately in their work
- apply the principles of individual, group and peer guidance in a justified manner.

Content (course unit)

During the study unit, we will seek to answer the following questions:
- What is functional counselling like?
- How is counselling structured in various contexts?
- How do you act in a goal-oriented way in a counselling situation?
- What is peer guidance?

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

The student passes the study unit if they have demonstrated competencies described in the learning outcomes. If the student has not achieved the learning outcomes or supplemented their competencies in the manner agreed on, they will fail the study unit. The grounds for the assessment criteria are described in the document ‘Pedagogical principles in Professional guidance counsellor education’. The assessment criteria are derived from the learning outcomes presented in the implementation plan for the study unit.
