Objectives (course unit)
Student is able to
- describe the structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell
- describe the characteristic properties, growth, nutritional and environmental needs of microbes, and based on them, draw conclusions on growing microbes in the laboratory
- explain the significance of microbes to health, environment and industrial production
- explain the most important methods used for microbiological sample preparation, culture and identification
- explain the most important sterilization methods

- utilization of microbes and the injurious effects of the microbes

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student is able to identify and define the most important structures of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. The student knows the basics of microbial growth, nutrition and living conditions and is able to describe the most important basic properties of microbes. The student understands the importance of microbes for health, environment and industrial production. The student knows the basic principles of the methods used in microbiological work.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student is able to describe the structure of the pro- and eukaryotic cell, the cellular organelles and their main functions. The student is able to identify and explain the requirements of microbial growth, nutrition and living conditions and is able to describe the most important properties of microbes. The student can explain the importance of microbes for health, environment and industrial production. The student is able to explain the principles of the methods used in microbiological work.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student is able to explain the structure of the pro and eukaryotic cell in detail, the cell organelles and their functions. The student is able to identify and explain in detail the requirements of microbial growth, nutrition and living conditions, and to describe the most important properties of microbes, and to draw conclusions about microbial growth. The student is able to explain in depth the importance of microbes for health, environment and industrial production. The student is able to explain in depth the principles of the methods used in microbiological work. The student has a good overview of the properties and functions of microbes.
Exam schedules
2 välikoetta: vk1: ilmoitetaan kurssin alussa, vk2: 24.2.2023
Välikokeiden rästi- ja korotuskoe Examissa viikolla 10/2023.
Koko suoritus on mahdollisuus tenttiä kerralla, tentti samana päivänä kuin vk2 (24.2.2023).
Koko suorituksen uusinta- ja korotustentit järjestetään Examissa vk 10/2023 ja vk12/2023.
Huomioi, että 4 periodissa olevalle Mikrobiologian laboratoriotyöt -kurssille ei voi osallistua, ellei mikrobiologian teoriakurssi ole tätä ennen hyväksytysti suoritettu.
