Objectives (course unit)

The student is able to
- describe the operating principles of the most common HVAC processes
- define the field devices needed for the process and determine the relationship between the processes and the field devices
- explain the basic characteristics of dynamic processes (gain, time constant, delay) and their importance for control
- the student is able to perform a step response test for a simple process and tune the PI controller by some known method

Content (course unit)

Heat distribution process automation, ventilation unit automation, room control and airflow control, control theory.

Prerequisites (course unit)

Building Automation and HVAC (5T00BE18)

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student is able to describe the significance of a building automation system as a part of building technology and to identify the equipment used in a building automation system and interpret documents related to the system. The student is able to make a simple HVAC process control diagram.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student is able to create a control diagram and description of the conventional HVAC process and describe the structure and equipment of the building automation system required by it. The student is able to create documents related to building automation system according to the design instructions. The student understands the importance of process gain and time constant .

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student is able to apply the topics covered and take into account the purpose of the premises and the objectives set for them when defining the activities related to the process. The student is able to utilize the opportunities offered by the systems and apply them to achieve the set goals. The student is able to tune the PI controller.
