Objectives (course unit)
The student knows how to compare the profitability of silvicultural decisions by using different calculations and is able to make and interpret these calculations. The student knows how to simulate different silvicultural decisions. He knows the risks, forests pests an diseases related to forest management and means to control them
Content (course unit)
Profitability calculations, present value calculations and discounting, internal rate, use of forest stand management simulator. Different management alternatives of even-aged forestry and the main risks of them. Forest pests and diseases and their control.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
The student is able to make profitability comparisons between conventional silvicultural solutions when assisted.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
The student is able to make profitability comparisons between different silvicultural options by using net present value calculations.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
The student is able to make different profitability comparisons between silvicultural options, interpret the profitability calculations presented in the research and also explain the risks and uncertainties associated with the calculations.
