Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to gather equipment needed for the patient’s care and is able to check their operation and safety for use
- is able to put the patient in position for an operation
- knows the methods used for disinfecting the patient's skin and mucous membranes
- is able to implement the principles of aseptic activities in creating a sterile area
- is able to work to maintain patient safety
- is able to evaluate the development of his/her own professionalism and identify his/her need for continuous development

Content (course unit)

- equipments needed in intraoperative nursing
- the patient safety in different positions for an operation
- skin and mucous disinfection
- aseptic activities in creating a sterile area

Prerequisites (course unit)

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include the theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. the requred area is perioperative nursing.

- is able to work properly in the perioperative nursing care at different phases of the process
- is able to work to maintain patient safety
- works professionally and ethically
- is able to evaluate the development of his/her own professionalism and identifies in him/herself the need for continuous development

The student
- puts patient safety at risk
