Objectives (course unit)
The course builds up the use of Finnish and provides the knowledge and practices how to act as a job applicant. Estimated level A2.2.
After completing the course, the students will be able to:
Search work on the internet and from other sources
Get information on available jobs
Write a job application in Finnish

Prerequisites (course unit)
Finnish as a Foreign Language 1 and Finnish as a Foreign Language 2 completed or equivalent knowledge.10 credits of studies up to the level A2.1.

Assessment methods and criteria
To pass the course a minimum attendance 80 % is required as well as completed assignments.
Course grade consists of two parts: The passed ending test and Moodle-tasks.
Very good class activity may improve the course grade.

Teaching methods
This implementation runs as an online course, but the final test (Tue 28.11. at 9.15 -11.45 and the retake (if needed) on 15.12. at 13.00 -14.30) take place in class room in TAMK, Kuntokatu 3, Tampere.
This course is suitable for you if you have studied before, e.g. with the help of Suomen mestari 1 book, or you have a corresponding basic skills of Finnish (around level A2.1). If you have not studied Finnish before this course is too difficult.

Student workload
3 ect course means 3 x 27 hours student work: at least 81 hours and clearly most of it self studying. Lessons 1,5 hours per week during the period 5.9. - 29.11.

With this course, a tuition-paying student can prepare for the spring 2023 scholarship test (probably yki-keskitaso). Finnish teaching will also continue in the spring with the second course.
So that you can progress well then, you need good knowledge of this course. The reaching the level B1.1 (intermediate level in National Certificates of Language Proficiency) requires good motivation to study and use Finnish in the course and outside of studies.

The simulations and in discussions aim to take into account the field of study, students' previous experience of working life and internships, and to provide practical benefits for future internships.
International connections
This course is for an international group of students. Collaboration is also coming with students from the second group.

Students has attended contact Lessons less than 80%. She has not completed course assignments because of lack of activity or acquired skills.

Students have been able to complete all the assignments acceptably and passed the ending test. They can tell about few of the achieved course contents, but their expression stays limited: both spoken and written language is partly hard to understand. It is difficult for them to take part to a simple discussion. Also incomplete pronunciation may cause difficulties to understand the speech.

Students have an active attitude towards studying Finnish language showing that by completing course tasks according to the schedule. They are able to cope in most achieved oral course exercises. Students are able to write short texts about their home, travelling or clothes in Finnish and are able to pronounce Finnish clearly enough. Students’ mother tongue may have an effect in pronunciation and/or sentence structure, but it doesn’t cause problems to understand the meaning of messages
Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
Students have a positive and active attitude towards learning language. They can pronounce Finnish distinctively and are able to use suitable and varied expressions in achieved course exercises using grammar mostly correct way. A student can participate in a conversation asking and responding to questions about topics studied in the course. She/he can write simple descriptions or stories and recombine words and phrases into new sentences. They understand the importance of good Finnish language skills to get a job in Finland.
