Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to tell about everyday life, future plans, working life, traveling, etc.
- is able to express the past time and discuss everyday topics with Finns.
- is somewhat familiar with the basic vocabulary and phrases used in the work of a nurse.

Content (course unit)

- vocabulary of transactions and the basic vocabulary of nursing
- oral and written interaction in Finnish
- main structures of Finnish

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student has passed all course assignments. The student recognizes the typical basic structures of the Finnish language, but there are many structural errors in his oral and written expression. The student recognizes some phrases and vocabulary in the field of nursing, but is able to utilize them in his / her own expression only by schematically imitating.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student performs the assignments on the schedule and the desires motivation for studying the Finnish language and culture. The student is able to use typical Finnish language structures in unifying sentences. He/She knows how to use the nursing vocabulary and phrases in his/her own expression.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student has a positive and active attitude towards studying the Finnish language. He/She does the assignments correctly, and is able to reflect on his/her learning process. He/She uses different language structures correctly and is able to utilize nursing vocabulary and phrases in her own expression naturally.

Contact lesson on time 7.9. - 29.11. Retake on 13.12. if needed.

Beginner level students: Follow the schedule of Basics of Finnish for Foreigners 2.

Assessment methods and criteria

To pass the course a minimum attendance 80 % is required as well as completed assignments.
Course grade consists of two parts: The passed ending test and Moodlet-tasks.

Very good class activity may improve the course grade.

Teaching methods

Study conversation about book´s material, collaborative learning, discussion exercises, activating written tasks, returnable Moodle-tasks learning simulation and games, process writing, short videos made by students. Co-operation with other student group.
The group is divided into two or three small groups with two teachers according to the starting level of the Finnish language.

N.B.! Beginner level students will take part in the Basics of Finnish for Foreigners 2 course, and also be evaluated based on the criteria in the said course.

The simulations aim to take into account the field of study, students' previous experience of working life and internships, and to provide practical benefits for future internships.

This course is for an international group of students. Collaboration is also coming with students from the second group.

Students has attended contact Lessons less than 80%. She has not completed course assignments because of lack of activity or acquired skills.

Moodle exercises have not been returned and or the final test has not been passed.

The student recognizes the typical basic structures of the Finnish language, but there are many structural errors in his oral and written expression. The student performs the given tasks according to the schedule and shows motivation to study the Finnish language and culture. The student is able to use typical Finnish language structures in simple sentences. She is able to use some nursing words and phrases in her own expression.

The student has a positive and active attitude towards studying the Finnish language. He does the tasks correctly and is able to reflect on his learning process. She uses different language structures correctly and is able to utilize nursing words and phrases naturally in her own expression.
