Objectives (course unit)

The student
- masters essential evidence based knowledge and skills of the emergency and high dependency unit patient’s nursing
- masters essential monitoring, assessment and supporting of vital functions of the emergency and high dependency unit patient’s promoting patient safety
- takes the crisis caused by an acute situation into consideration and supports the patient and family.

Content (course unit)

- assessment of the care needs of an acutely ill throughout the care path out-patient and in-patient care facilities
- care planning, implementation and evaluation of an acutely ill in varied care facilities
- non-invasive and invasive monitoring, assessing and supporting of vital functions of emergency and high dependency unit patients
- essential bandage and cast application techniques
- leadership, decision making and communication in advanced resuscitation and life support
- multidisciplinary care

Prerequisites: participation in course Nursing care of emergency and high dependency unit patient’s

Pass
The student
- is able to plan and implement advanced medical-surgical nursing and palliative care
- acts professionally according to patient safety and ethical principles in nursing

Fail
The student
- is compromising patient safety
- is lacking in professionalism or following the ethical principles
