Objectives (course unit)
Students learn about modern digital vehicle technology in versatile ways
Students are able to:
- auto electrical engineering basic concepts and device technology
- read and design circuit diagrams
- design basic components and wires
- able to search for and manage the fault finding
- the basic principles and technological devices
- make simple bus applications
Content (course unit)
Traditional car electronics: Generator system, starter system, ignition system, fuel injection system, battery, relay, electric motors, lighting, actuators, wiring.
Car and industrial vehicle sensor technology. Vehicle electrical wiring diagrams.
Electric car safety.
Fault diagnostics. Bus technology. Control system architecture. CAN-bus technology. Software programming exercises and application design using CAN-programming software. Other car bus systems.
Circuit board technology, electronic components and joining technology.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
Students recognize the electrical and bus components used in vehicles. They know various sensors, bus types and components but not why those have been chosen. They know basic electrical diagram signs. Students know how electronics are manufactured. They can work in teams, have interaction skills and know basic working methods.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
Students are able to compare properties of various electrical and bus components. They can choose sensors, controllers and actuators for a vehicle and justify their selection. They can read electrical and software diagrams. They know how electronics are manufactured and know needs for new components and circuits. Student work together, take responsibility and develop their interaction skills.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
Students have a general understanding of how the electrical and bus components in a vehicle work. They can choose correct sensors and bus solutions for a specific vehicle. They can read bus aplicationns and electrical diagrams, and design wire harnesses. They know how electronics are manufactured and know needs for new components and circuits they benefits and possibilities. Student work together flexibly, take responsibility and develop their interaction skills.
