Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to base his/her work on a broad understanding of health promotion
- is able to work according to the values, principles and ethical guidelines of a public health nurse
- is familiar with the legislation and other guidelines governing public health care and is able to act accordingly
- is able to develop promotional and preventive public health care work in different action environments
- is able to analyze evidence-based knowledge in client-oriented planning, implementation and evaluation of health promotion
- understands the meaning of health equality and the importance of reducing health inequalities by promoting public health

Prerequisites (course unit)

Completed clinical studies in both nursing and anatomy and physiology (135 credits).

The student
- perceives health promotion as part of the work of a public health nurse
- is familiar with the key legislation governing public health nursing and recognises ethical principles
- knows the main methods of public health nursing
- perceives the importance of multi-professional cooperation in health promotion

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student
- is familiar with the legislation governing public health nursing, and national and international guidelines and ethical principles
- is able to plan health-promoting public health nursing
- knows the basics of evidence-based practice in public health nursing
- knows the importance of multi-professional cooperation in health promotion

The student
- is able to apply the legislation governing public health nursing, along with national and international guidelines and ethical principles
