Objectives (course unit)

The student
- learns to meet professionally with individuals and families from different life situations and cultures
- learns to identify and address the mental health and / or substance abuse problems of different age groups and helps motivate them to change
- learns to work in a professional relationship with the client
- learns to reflect on his/her own professional activities

Content (course unit)

- care dialogue
- motivating discussion
- de-escalation skills in meeting a patient displaying threatening behaviour

Prerequisites (course unit)

First year studies 50 ects completed, including the course on Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.
Participation in the course on Mental and Substance Abuse Nursing.

- is able to plan and implement mental and substance abuse nursing safely
- works professionally and ethically

Fail
The student
- puts patient safety at risk

Assessment methods and criteria

Taking part of the training every time: 1, 2 and 3 and pretasks need to be done before the meetings.
