AIMS
The students deepen their theoretical knowledge in a chosen field of media. They learn to find meaningful information from different sources, to combine information and to reflect on what they have learned.
CONTENT
The students write essays about books and/or magazines of their field to support their professional skills. A five point achievement requires five essays.
GUIDELINES
1. Choose 3-7 books that you find interesting for your media studies, depending on the area and topics that you personally think are important for your own professional development.
2. Send your book list by email to ari.narhi@tuni.fi (Interactive Media), janne.tauriainen@tuni.fi (Music Production) or sari.tervaniemi@tuni.fi (Fine art study path)
3. In the essays you should not only write about the content of the books but also explain the process in your head and in what sense you are a more competent professional after digesting the content of the book. Your essay should be a presentation and a summary of the learning outcome.
4. The grading scale is 1 to 5, to get 5 you should combine the information you find from the books and other sources in a creative way, with your own examples and notions about the topic you've chosen.
5. The length of the essay is hard to define since you have different writing styles - about 3-5 pages per book but it can be more or less; most important is that you don't write nonsense but concentrate on your topic and content.
6. Send your essays by email to janne.tauriainen@tuni.fi (Music Production), sari.tervaniemi@tuni.fi (Fine Art) or ari.narhi@tuni.fi (Interactive Media) all attached to one e-mail with subject "Media professional literature - essays"
