Thesis Seminar 1 (3 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

- can apply the guidelines of Bachelor’s thesis and are familiar with the objectives of thesis in the degree programme of social services
- can describe the process of making a thesis in the degree programme
- choose a research theme and explain their choice
- find current and essential sources in English for the thesis
- know the terminology of social services and academic vocabulary in order to understand scientific texts in English, are familiar with the structure of scientific texts, and know how to apply reading strategies

Content (course unit)

- Getting acquainted with current research and development projects in TAMK and social services
- Evaluating research themes provided by work life from the perspective of learning objectives
- Writing and presenting an idea paper
- Participation in information acquisition teaching by searching for essential electronic resources in English (Advanced Skills in Information Acquisition)
-Academic reading: authentic scientific texts, structure of scientific texts, reading strategies, academic vocabulary, summarizing

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Rejected: the student does not master the thesis process, cannot create realistic idea paper for the thesis.
Admitted. The student has drafted an idea paper on his thesis and demonstrated scientific thinking and writing.

19.1.21 tietoa opinnäytetyöprosessista
Opinnäytetyöseminaari 1 ja 2 seminaarit toteutuvat päällekkäin siten, että syksyn seminaareissa esitetään sekä ideapaperi että tutkimussuunnitelma. Seminaarit jatkuvat alkuvuodesta 2022.
Seminaareilla on yhteinen Moodlesivu.
Seminaarit Teams- videoyhteydessä.

Exam schedules

Ideapaperi ja tutkimussuunnitelma valmistuu yksilöllisesti .
Opinnäytetyöseminaari 1 ja opinnäytetyöseminaari 2 toteutuvat päälekkäin , mikä tarkoittaa että seminaareissa esitetään samanaikaisesti sekä ideapapereita että tutkimussuunnutelmia.

Assessment methods and criteria

Opinnäytetyöseminaari 1 hyväksytty suorittaminen vaatii 1 kerran osallistumista tiedonhankintaan, osallistumista yhteisiin seminaareihin ja oman ideapaperin esittämistä seminaarissa.
