Objectives (course unit)
The student
- is able to safely prepare equipment for intravenous fluid therapy and drug therapy
- can safely carry out drug additions
- is able under supervision to safely perform peripheral cannulation
- knows how to guide the patient concerning intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusion
- knows the principles of asepsis in intravenous fluid and drug therapy
- recognises the ethical responsibility in fluid therapy and blood transfusion.

- preparing the infusion for use and adding the medicine to the infusion
- peripheral vein cannulation
- implementation of fluid therapy and blood transfusion
Prerequisites (course unit)
Participation in courses on Infection Control and Intravenous Fluid Therapy and Blood Transfusion.

Pass
The student
- is able to plan and implement intravenous fluid therapy safely
- is able to plan blood transfusion safely
- works professionally and ethically.
Fail
The student puts patient safety at risk.

Exam schedules
The student will have to demonstrate the skills during the course.

Content and objectives of the course:
the student masters aseptic and safe working manners at all times during practices and when handling the equipment.
the student masters clinical calculations required during the administration of intravenous fluids and medication
the student will be able to prepare an IV infusion set with aseptic and safety manners
the student will be able to prepare IV fluids for intravenous infusion with aseptic and safety manners
the student will be able to prepare intravenous medication infusion/injection with aseptic and safety manners
the student will be able to perform a peripheral cannulation with aseptic and safety manners
the student will be able to give guidance to the patient in relation to intravenous fluid and medication administration
