Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to make the necessary measurements to determine the needs for supporting self-care
- is able to make a service and care plan for home care
- is able to make a health and care plan for a chronically ill patient
- is able to make a client's self-care plan
- is able to safely give vaccines

Content (course unit)

- examination of sight and hearing, ear flushing, throat culture, weight index and waist circumference, and risk testing
- service-, health- and care plans
- as a nurse in reception
- giving intradermal injections
- intramuscular vaccination to upper arm

Prerequisites (course unit)

First year studies 50 ects completed, including the course on Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.
Participation in the course on Nursing in Outpatient Health Care.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass
The student
- is able to plan and implement outpatient health care safely
- works professionally and ethically

Fail
The student
- puts patient safety at risk

Assessment methods and criteria

100% attendance in each skill stations.
Student will demonstrate id-injection succesfully.
Active participation with completed preparatory assignments.

Total of 27 hours including independent studies, 10 hours contact.

Content scheduling

Skills stations in small groups as follows:
Part 1: 4h personalised health check-ups and screenings at TAITOKESKUS
Part 2: 2h intradermal injection and vaccination at TAMK
Part 3: 4h simulation skills: as a nurse in outpatient health care, guiding and intervention skills at TAMK

Completion alternatives

There is no alteranative method for this course.
Small group exchange only in agreement with the teacher.

Mandatory Orientation 2.9.2021. Orientation will be hold at the same time with the course: Nursing in Outpatient Health Care.

Students need to attend Nursing in Outpatient Health Care -course at the same time or earlier.

Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Approved:
100% attendance in skills stations and active participation with completed preparatory assignments. Id-injection demonstration.
Failed: The criteria for approved is not met.
