Basic Level Emergency Care (7 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to describe the multidisciplinary care path of the emergency patient, the collaborating partners and their tasks
- is able to assess the need for emergency patient care and identify the need for urgent care
- knows the most central treatment methods for an emergency patient
- is prepared to document the emergency care record, report and use the network of emergency medical services
- knows the most important emergency treatment methods
- knows the ethical principles set out in the legislation concerning emergency care
- knows the principles of the emergency call-out and is able to control the emergency vehicle.

- emergency care service and the governing legislation
- emergency patient’s care path and multi-authority cooperation
- work safety in emergency care
- assessment of an emergency patient’s care need
- non-urgent emergency services for home care
- basics of emergency care for patients with respiratory distress, chest pain, loss of consciousness, injuryand poisoning; also for the elderly
- resuscitation of an emergency patient
- afe transportation of a patient
- heory of emergency driving and practical exercises in handling the ambulance

Prerequisites (course unit)

Completion of first year studies, Medical and Surgical Nursing, Anatomy and Physiology, Medication and Medication Calculation.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student
- is able to describe the co-operation partners involved in the multidisciplinary care path of the emergency patient
- knows how to assess the situation of an emergency care patient, including how to identify any urgent needs
- is able to provide nursing care for an emergency patient
- knows the key issues regarding implementing and assessing medications and their impact ???
- knows the basics of documenting emergency records, reporting, and using the public authority network in communication
- is able to work ergonomically and in accordance with work safety protocols
- knows the ethical principles of emergency care and is able to list the main provisions of the legislation that governs emergency activities.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student
- knows the partners involved in the multidisciplinary care path of the emergency patient and is able to describe their role.
- is able to assess the situation of the emergency patient, including identifying any need for urgent care
- is able to provide nursing care in emergency situations
- is able to safely administer an emergency patient’s medication treatment
- is able to document the key issues in the Emergency care record, report and use the official network in communication.
- is able to act ergonomically and in accordance with work safety protocols.
- knows the ethical principles of emergency care and the legislation that governs the emergency care activities
- knows the principles of the emergency ambulance call-out

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student
- knows the partners involved in the multidisciplinary care path of emergency care patients and is able to describe their tasks
- masters the assessment of emergency situations and recognises the need for urgent care
- is able to provide nursing care to an emergency care patient and to explain in detail his / her activities.
- masters safe medication treatment for an emergency patient
- is able to document key issues in the emergency care record, report and use the official network in communication
- understands the importance of written and oral reporting in the treatment of emergency care patients
- is able to describe and assess the risks related to occupational safety in emergency care and the ways to reduce such safety risks
- is able to critically analyse the ethical principles and activities of emergency care
- masters the principles of the emergency ambulance call-out

Orientoivan harjoittelun tunnit ovat pakolliset ja niille pukeudutaan suojavaatteisiin. Opiskelijat huolehtivat tuntien jälkeen välineet paikoilleen, mahdolliset täydennykset ja tarvittavat laitehuolto-toimenpiteet.

Tietää ensihoidon perusosaamisen myötä ensihoitajan velvollisuudet ja vastuut.Tunnistaa ensihoitoa vaativat peruselintoimintojen häiriöt ensi- ja tarkennetun arvion perusteella ja noudattaa hoito-ohjeistuksia. Tietää tutkimus-, hoito- ja viestintälaitteiden toimintaperiaatteet ja turvallisuusnäkökohdat. Osaa kuvailla ensihoidon riskitekijöitä. Tietää eri viranomaisten toimintavastuut. Tietää dokumentoinnin perusteet ja raportointirakenteen.

Hallitsee potilaan systemaattisen tutkimisen, ensi- ja tarkennetun hoidon tarpeen arvioinnin, tunnistaa ensihoitoa vaativat peruselintoimintojen häiriöt ja osaa toimia adekvaatisti niiden vaatimalla tavalla.Käyttää sujuvasti ja osaa huoltaa tutkimus-, hoito- ja viestintälaitteita. Osaa kuvailla ja tunnistaa ensihoitoon liittyviä riskitekijöitä, ottaa huomioon toiminnassaan ja kertoi keinoja riskitekijöiden pienentämiseksi. Tietää eri viranomaisten toimintavastuut ja osaa toimia proaktiivisesti oman roolinsa puitteissa. Dokumentointi on sujuvaa ja tarkoituksenmukaista ja raportointi selkeää ja strukturoitua.
