Objectives (course unit)

The student is able to examine, observe and interpret their living environment and visual image culture critically. The student is able to convey observations and interpretations through photographing. Student is able to collaborate in an international student team.

Content (course unit)

The student learns the basic digital technology of photography and creates a photographic work of art. Sustainable development.

WEEK 34

MON 17.8. at 11 – 16 (Zoom meet)

• Start of the course: aim, content, timetable, evaluation criteria
• What kind of gears each student have (maybe borrowing DSLR-cameras from AV-storage)
• Control of the DSLR-camera
• A basic photo technique and expression lecture
• Brief for an assignment 1: Self-portrait; concentrate to an ambient light and a depth of field
• Brief for an assignment 2: Milieu portrait of a friend; concentrate to a person and how you present her/him/their
• Brief for a main assignment: Diptych or Triptych (Sketch for artwork). Take two or three images to a completeness and give a title to your artwork

• About editing applications Photoshop and Krita (free)
• Downloading files
• Presentation of Photoshop application (and Bridge shortly)
• Presentation of Krita application
• Uploading small jpeg files into a Moodle implementation
• Quickly checking / some comments for portraits (= the assignment 1) with an opponent method

WED 19.8.
• Self-contained working with assignments, possibility to meet the teacher (online or face to face)

THU 20.8. at 10 – 15 (Zoom meet)
• More about Photoshop application (at 10-12)
• Basics about a color management (at 13)
• Quickly checking / some comments for milieu portraits (= assignment 2) with the opponent method

FRI 21.8. at 10 - 15 (mainly in Zoom)
• Self-contained working with the main assignment and possibility to an individual tutoring meeting with the teacher at Zoom or face to face. Book your time before with email (antti.haapio@tuni.fi)

• Perception (by Tiiu Baldwin) and Contemporary Art Method (by Sari Tervaniemi) courses
