Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is able to promote mental health and prevent substance abuse problems in different environments;
- has professional competence in meeting patients and families with mental health or substance abuse problems;
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate in collaboration with the patient or his/her family;
- has competence in facing threathening situations;
- is able to reflect his/her professional actions;
- knows the most common psychiatric illnesses, their symptoms, investigations and care.

- prevention of mental health problems and substance abuse
- mental health nursing
- substance abuse nursing
- methods for identifying mental health and substance abuse problems
- nursing care plan, structured documentation
- proactive interaction in threatening, escalating situations
- using and developing one's personality in a professional manner
- psychopharmacology
- psychiatry as a medical specialty

Prerequisites (course unit)

30 ects of initial stage studies must be completed before entering the middle stage studies.

Practical training and working life cooperation

Orientation mandatory and nursing care plan - task lessons mandatory. Experience expert visit at week 14 and week 15, mandatory. Small group work attending mandatory.
