Objectives (course unit)

The student is able to
-explain the principles of most common methods used in protein extraction, purification and characterization
- explain immunity and the basic concepts of immunology
- explain how antibodies are produced and how they are used in immunoanalytical techniques
- explain the principles of most common immunoanalytical techniques
- analyze proteins and perform immunological analyses in laboratory
- document the laboratory work and report the results clearly

Exam schedules

Exam 10.12.2020
Retake exams in Exam system. Retake exams (in Exam) available until the end of the 4th academic period (until 31 July 2021). The dates are agreed with the teacher in person. If the course exam is not approved by the end of the 4th period, the student has to re-attend the theoretical part of the course and the exam.

Evaluation methods and criteria

The student is required to complete the course's compulsory tasks, final exam and laboratory exercises.
Exam (60 % of the grade), limit for passing the exam: 50 % of the points.
Labortatory excercises (40 % of the grade), includes planning of the laboratory work, laboratory work and reporting.

The student is able to name the most common methods used in the extraction, purification, and characterization of proteins.
The student has the basic knowledge of immunity, and how antibodies are produced.
The student is able to name the most common analytical methods used in immunology.
The student is able to plan laboratory work and is able to use protein analytics and immunological methods in the laboratory under supervision. The student is able to report the laboratory results as instructed.

The student is able to explain the priciples of the most common methods used in the extraction, purification, and characterization of proteins.
The student is able to describe principles of immunity, and how antibodies are produced.
The student is able to explain the priciples the most common analytical methods used in immunology.
The student is able to plan laboratory work and is able to analyze proteins and do immunological analyses in the laboratory.
The student is able to document the laboratory results and report them clearly as instructed.

The student is able to explain the priciples of the most common methods used in the extraction, purification, and characterization of proteins as well as the priciples the most common analytical methods used in immunology and factors affecting to them in detail.
The student is able to describe principles of immunity, how antibodies are produced, and how they are used in immunological techniques.
The student is able to plan laboratory work and is able to analyze proteins and do immunological analyses in the laboratory independently.
The student is able to document the laboratory results and report them clearly as instructed.
