Basics of Project Management (5 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the basics of project management and give them an idea of what the project is.

After completing the course the students
- know a project manager's core tasks and understand the importance of the project work in an organization
- know and understand the key tools of the project management.

Content (course unit)

What tasks are typical in a project manager’s work?
How are projects led?
What tools should the project manager be able to use?
Why is team work particularly important in projects?

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student is able to describe the basic tasks of the project manager and to list the tools used in the projects.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student is able to work as a project manager and to apply the most common tools of pro-ject management. They can identify the basic elements of project management and are able to choose an appropriate methodology for the project management context.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student understands widely the tasks of a project manager and is able to work flexibly and constructively as a project manager. They understand the basic elements of project management and are able to use the tools required for projects efficiently and versatile.

Arviointi perustuu annettuihin tehtäviin, aktiviseen osallistumisen ja tenttiin tai oman projektin projektisuunnitelmaan.

Omatoiminen opiskeluja harjoitukset lähikertojen välillä.
Caset ja simulaatiot.
Tentti tai suunnitelma omasta projektista.

Opiskelija osaa kuvata projektipäällikön perustehtävät ja pystyy luettelemaan projekteissa käytettäviä työkaluja.

Opiskelija pystyy toimimaan projektipäällikkönä ja osaa soveltaa projektihallinnan yleisimpiä työkaluja. Hän tunnistaa projektijohtamisen peruselementit ja osaa valita projektihallinnalli-sesti tilanteeseen sopivan menettelytavan.

Opiskelija ymmärtää laaja-alaisesti projektipäällikön tehtävät ja osaa toimia projektipäällikkö-nä joustavasti ja rakentavasti. Hän ymmärtää projektijohtamisen peruselementit ja osaa käyt-tää projekteissa vaadittavia työkaluja tehokkaasti ja monipuolisesti.
