Objectives (course unit)

Know historical phases of special needs education and evaluate their meaning and effects on the present day.
Are familiarised with special needs pedagogy as a discipline, master its key concepts and can use and apply them in their work extensively.
See interfaces between special needs pedagogy and other disciplines and understand their meaning in special needs teachers’ work.
Are familiarised with the latest research in special needs pedagogy and can use and apply it in developing their work and organisation.

What are the key historical phases of special needs education and their meaning and effects on the present day?
What are the key concepts of special needs pedagogy and how are they used in work extensively?
How can you use research information on special need pedagogy in your work?
How can the latest research information on special needs pedagogy be used in developing your work and organisation?

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Opintojakso on hyväksytty, kun opiskelija
- tuntee erityiskasvatuksen ja –opetuksen historialliset vaiheet ja niiden merkityksen nykyisyyteen
- on perehtynyt erityispedagogiikkaan tieteenalana ja hallitsee erityispedagogiikan keskeiset käsitteet ja osaa hyödyntää sekä soveltaa niitä omassa työssään laaja-alaisesti
- hahmottaa muiden tieteenalojen ja erityispedagogiikan rajapintoja
- on perehtynyt erityispedagogiikan uusimpaan tutkimustietoon ja osaa hyödyntää sekä soveltaa sitä oman työn ja organisaation toiminnan kehittämisessä

Kun opiskelija ei saavuta tavoitteita eikä ole täydentänyt osaamistaan sovitulla tavalla, opintojakso arvioidaan hylätyksi.
