Objectives (course unit)

After the course, students can
- explain the history of art and technology and how it connects to emerging media
- recognize, analyze and be able to use and modify diverse tools acknowledging sustainability, usability and innovative aspects
- reflect on and demonstrate her/his approach as a professional practitioner of emerging media

Content (course unit)

During the course, students will explore and orientate themselves with the concept of art and technology. They will acknowledge both traditional and new ways of connecting art and technology within their own work field. They will create demonstrations with digital technology in an innovative manner.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student identifies different forms of art and technology applications and analyzes their connection to emerging media and sustainability. The student demonstrates her/his own point of view to the given topics and develops her/his skills within their area of work.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student explains the diverse forms of combining art and technology, acknowledging both artistic
and technological viewpoints. The student demonstrates the usage of technology in art within her/his own work field. The student applies her/his explorations in emerging media to her/his own professional field in a creative way, including considerations of sustainability.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student critically analyzes diverse forms of art and technology. The student evaluates the impact of various implementations of emerging media on her/his own professional field and, in a broader sense on society. The student clearly justifies her/his arguments and is able to provide an innovative approach to the given subject matters, combining art and technology and considering sustainable issues. The student demonstrates excellent and open-minded attitude to her/his work, as well as towards fellow students’ knowledge and skills.

Location and time

Intensive week in Mediapolis, Tampere in 9.-13.12.2019, continuing as an on-line course in Tabula.
