Objectives (course unit)

Engineers of water resources manage and plan freshwater resources in soil, ground, rivers and lakes. The students know the basics of hydrology and hydraulics. They understand the basic terms of hydrology and hydraulics, know how to measure them, can use data from the measurements and different public data resources.

Content (course unit)

The students learn selected topics in hydrology, hydraulics, limnology, water re-sources systems analysis, water resources environmental impact assessment, hydraulic structures, and irrigation and drainage.

The amount and movement of water in the soil is controlled with irrigation, drain-age, and in some cases with pumping wells. What is the quality of water and how different compositions drift within water.

The students learn the basic effects of building for water use (the principals of hydraulic structures: dams, levies, hydro power plants, channels, fishways, etc.)
The basic equations of hydrodynamics and hydrostatics and applying them in design work of water supply (open and pipe flow, flows in waterways).

The students learn some details of the laws and regulations consulting water re-sources engineering (building in the waterway, water supply, water protection for example.)

Exam schedules
