Objectives (course unit)
The student
- is able to quide the patient in the preoperative and postoperative stages;
- is able to take care of the surgical wound and to guide the patient in wound care;
- is able to use various wound dressings;
- is able to plan, implement and evaluate the patient's parenteral nutrition;
- knows how to apply the principles of aseptic practice and is able to promote patient safety.

Prerequisites (course unit)
30 ects of initial stage studies must be completed before entering the middle stage studies.
Theory of surgical nursing, basics of intravenous fluid therapy and blood transfusion

30 ECTS from the first-phase studies to be completetd.
Participation in surgical nursing and parenteral fluid therapy and blood transfusion courses before this course. Contents of the lessons:
- surgical wound care
- surgical dressings, bandages, stoma care
- surgical patient's parenteral nutrition and hydration, central venous catheter
- care for a patient with a tracheostomy
Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
To pass this course a student should:
- participate in all three meetings, 100% participation
- being an active participant and take part in all activities and given tasks within the given timeframes
- it is mandatory make pre-task criterias before the skills meeting, and show them to the teacher at the beginning of each meeting
- professional behaviour during the lessons
