Objectives (course unit)

The student
- knows radiological examinations and is familiar with radiotherapy and radiation safety;
- knows the basics of tumour diseases and cell damage.

Content (course unit)

- radiological examinations, radiation therapy and radiation safety
- pathology: tumour diseases, cell damage, inflammation reactions, tissue healing

Prerequisites (course unit)

30 ects of initial stage studies must be completed before entering the middle stage studies.

Exam schedules

PATHOLOGY (0,5 ECTS)
- exam in Tabula
- instructions and timing will be told in INFO or via e-mail depending on the studying method of the part
RADIATON SAFETY, RADIOGRAPHY AND RADIOTHERAPY (1,5 ECTS)
- exam
Retake
- in case of not passing the exam for the first time, there are two retake possibilities in both of the parts
- timing of the retakes will be informed if needed

Assessment methods and criteria

The evaluation of the students knowledge is done by the exams.
The course will be totally accepted after the both parts have been passed.
From both of the exams the student must get 70% of the maximum points to pass the exam.

Student workload

Total amount of studying time for the student in this course will be 54 hours.
PATHOLOGY
Depending on the way of teaching the time used can be totally independent studying or 2 hours of lectures (mandatory). In both cases the course will be passed after the student the student completes the exam successfully.
RADIATON SAFETY, RADIOGRAPHY AND RADIOTHERAPY
12 hours contact lectures, compulsory attendance.

PATHOLOGY
Contents:
- inflammation and infection
- cell damage
- tumor diseases / cancer
- tissue and wound healing process
- effects of aging
Aims:
- the student knows the basics of the above mentioned processes
- the student understands the principles of the treatment methods of infectious and tumor diseases and the process of wound healing in medical-surgical nursing
- the student knows the mechanism of effect of radiotherapy and chemotrapy
- the student understands effects of antimicrobial medication in pharmacology
RADIATON SAFETY, RADIOTHERAPY
- aims and contents as well as the standards of knowledge are supervised by Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) and the can be found in the STUK guide 1.7: https://www.stuklex.fi/en.
RADIOGRAPHY
- the student knows the basics of different imaging examinations, safety and radiation safety

Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Pass (S in Pakki)
- 70% of the maximum points in both exams.
Fail (0 in Pakki)
- less than 70% of the maximum points in both exams.
