Working English for Professionals (3 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

Students
- know how to act in communication situations in the working life (e.g. e-mails)
- know the basic business English vocabulary and are able to present a topic from their field of study (e.g. company, process)
- know the most important vocabulary of their field of study

• working life communication
• business English
• terminology of the students’ field of study
• grammar as required

Prerequisites (course unit)

English for laboratory professionals 1 or corresponding skills.

Exam schedules

There will be exams at the end of the course. Oral company presentation plus written test.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Active attendance 80%, course assignments, and a possible final exam. No substitute assignments.

Teaching methods

Lectures, class activities, group work, oral presentations, assignments and self-study.

Learning materials

Materials will be provided on TABULA plus student collected materials from their field of study

Student workload

Students research, prepare company presentations, practice giving presentations, email writing, giving instructions etc.

The student performs well in varied communicative situations and writes mostly easy-to-understand and grammatically good English. Produced text is comprehensible, readable with less mistakes.

The student performs well and in a professional manner in varied communicative situations and writes easy-to-read, grammatically good professional English. Produced text is comprehensible with no mistakes.
