Objectives (course unit)
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. understand and use Finnish language in simple everyday situations
2. recognise the grammatical elements in Finnish words
3. apply grammatical structures in new situations
4. understand Finnish culture and way of life and studying

- pronunciation
- basic grammar
- day-to-day language: greeting, introduction, shopping, asking the way
- Finnish food, habits, education system, religion

On Mondays at 15.00 - 16.30 at Mediapolis campus in a class room 30014.

Assessment methods and criteria
Passed/failed (If student's home university requires a mark of completed courses at TAMK, Basics of Finnish course grade (1 - 5) will be dictated by the result of the written test.). Continuous assessment based on classwork (activity, presence, completed exercises), a completed drama exercise and passed final exam. To pass the course 80 % attendance is required.

Assessment criteria - pass/fail (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
A student can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. She/he can introduce her/himself and others and can ask questions about personal details such as where she/he lives, people she/he knows and things he/she has. She/he can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help. She/he has attended contact lessons regularly - at least 80 % - and passed a final written exam.
