Objectives (course unit)

The students are able to:
- use up to date sound design techniques, tools and working methods
- deepen their professional identity as sound designers or developers

Content (course unit)

Advanced sound design methods

Location and time

Mediapolis, in different sound film and music premises. 13023, Sputnik 1 and 2, Kosmos 1

Evaluation methods and criteria

Student keeps a diary on the course and presents it.
Student tries to find interesting questions on sound design to get topics to work on.
Student teams up to research a topic and make a presentation with examples

Teaching methods

A workshop.
Developing an event/project/installation to design sounds for.
Experimenting ways of interacting with sound and audience in an installation.
Finding interesting sound design questions and trying to find solutions.

Further information

Audio Technology Basics or similar and Introduction to sound design or similar course must have been done before.
Or show that you have basic undesrtanding on DAWS, signal flow in audio, digital audio and mixing, using eq, compressors, reverbs, delays, pitch shift, tuning, bussing/auxes.
And show that you know basics of sound design and psychoacoustic principles.

Assessment criteria - fail (0) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student fails to hand in assignments. Student fails to attend classes.

Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student hands in the assignments. Assignments shows descent skills. Student attend at least 40% of classes. Student shows descents participation in classes.

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student hands most of the assignments in time. Assignments shows good skills. Student attend at least 60% of classes. Student shows active participation in classes.

Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student hands all assignments in time. All the assignments shows exceptional skills. Student attend at least 80% of classes. Students shows very active participation in classes.
