Objectives (course unit)
The student
- recognises the symptoms of different mental health and substance abuse problems and is able to assess the need for care according to the severity of the symptoms and their effects on the functional ability;
- knows the primary medication in mental health and substance abuse problems and is able to use nursing interventions to promote compliance;
- can assess the need for care of patients and their significant others in special mental health or substance abuse services and promote nursing cooperation with them;
- works professionally in nurse-patient relationships and with patients’ significant others promoting recovery.
