Objectives (course unit)

Students are able to perceive the soundscape through aural analysis.
They can make note transcription for compositions based on basic tonality and the most common altered notes through aural perception. They are familiar with various styles of note transcription and the differences between sounds and and note symbols.

Students have innovation skills and learning skills.

Content (course unit)

- principles of note transcription, comparison between note symbols and sounds
- breakdown of a sound
- exercises in the transcription of melodies
- transcription of drum rhythms
- polyrhythmic exercises
- chord studies
- aural perception of the structures of harmony
- transcription of compositions to make notes for rehearsals
- utilization of computer technology in transcription
- small-scale arrangement exercises
