Objectives (course unit)

This business planning course provides both basic theory and hands-on guidance to business planning. Primary objective is for students to learn the basics of business planning (1st period) and be able to create such a plan (2nd period) for a virtual company.

After completing the course, the students will be able to:
• Understand the structure of a typical business plan
• Describe the purpose of each element of the business plan
• Apply basic business planning principles

Content (course unit)

• What are the features of a good business plan?
• How to create business plan for the virtual company?
• How to determine prices for the products and services?
• Which actions should be taken when implementing a business plan?

Exam schedules

No exams.
Business plan document (group product) replaces the exam. No possibility to retake.

Assessment methods and criteria

Participation into workshops 30%
- Contact teaching 4 times and final presentation
Virtual firm team assignments 30%
1. Service idea definition for the virtual firm team (including mission and vision)
2. Functional definition (blueprint) of the virtual firm service
3. Business model for the virtual firm service (accoring to Alexander Osterwalder)
4. Final presentation of the virtual firm service (Pecha Kucha format)
Business plan (40%)
- Must do to pass the course

The student fails to show required level of expertise in business planning in practice. Charasteristic to grade 0 are the following:
- The student team fails to create acceptable busness plan
- The student participates less than 3 workshops (=contact teaching)
- The student team completes less than 3 assignments with grade pass

Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The student displays satisfactory level of expertise in business planning in practice. Charasteristic to grades 1-2 are the following:
- The student team creates a satisfactory busness plan
- The student participates at least 2 workshops (=contact teaching)
- The student team completes at least 3 assignments with grade pass

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The student displays good level of expertise in business planning in practice. Charasteristic to grades 3-4 are the following:
- The student team creates a good busness plan
- The student participates at least 3 workshops (=contact teaching)
- The student team completes all 4 assignments with grade pass

Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

The student displays excellent level of expertise in business planning in practice. Charasteristic to grade 5 are the following:
- The student team creates an excellent busness plan
- The student participates all 4 workshops (=contact teaching)
- The student team completes all 4 assignments with grade pass
