Objectives (course unit)

Student
-knows the principles of scientific research and know the differneces of qualitative and quantitative research
- knows the research process and understands the significance of research for the development of working practices
- knows the most common research methods and learns to apply them adequately
- can plan an experimental research study
- knows the procedure of the thesis process at TAMK and requirements of a thesis
- knows the processes of searching information and is able to evaluate information critically.

- phases of scientific problem solving and the research process
- different scientific approaches and methods
- research ethics
- reporting, scientific publications
- critical evaluation/analysis of research

Assessment methods and criteria

Continuous evaluation: research plan and presentation (20 %), thesis analysis, peer review and presentation (70 %), activity and participation in lessons and discussions (10 %).

Information searching (pass/fail).
80% participation required, as well as participation in 3/4 of the thesis analysis presentations.
