Objectives (course unit)

The course describes the meaning of business responsibility and sustainability development in local and global business. Students learn the content of those concepts very widely. Students learn to apply the theory of business responsibility and sustainability development to real companies.

After completing the course, the students will be able to:

- Describe the main contents of business responsibility and sustainable development
- Understand the meaning of those perspectives in business life
- Collect, analyze and compare the business responsibility and sustainable development of companies
- Apply the knowledge of business responsibility and sustainability development to real companies business

Content (course unit)

What is the content of business responsibility?
What is the content of sustainability development?
Why are they relevant for the companies?
How can companies tell these things to its stakeholders?
Co-operation project with international partners

Exam schedules

No exams. Assignments, presentations, book essay. International week (5 days) in Portugal spring 2019.

Evaluation methods and criteria

Activity, assignments, presentation, interview, international week.
Self- and group assessment.
Evaluation of the course will be defined more precisely in the beginning of the course (Tabula).

Teaching methods

Teaching, Promblem based learning, assignments, interviews, presentations, article work, visit or visitor.
International trip to Portugal is compulsory for Finnish students. Students will apply financing of short tearm internationalisation of TAMK. The teacher will make the application for that. This financing is not possible for exchange students.That is the reason that they can not participate to that trip. If they want, they have to pay the trip themselves.

Content scheduling

Every week own agenda. Several different themes.

Practical training and working life cooperation

Students are going to visit some company (they have to find that company themselves) and clear how they operate with the topic.

International connections

2 credits of 5 is coming from that international co-operation.

Further information

The course contents international project of five days to Portugal in spring 2019. The student has to pay around 150 - 250 euros of own money for travelling and overnights costs. Of course more own money is needed for food etc.
Student has to participate the lessons. It is not possible to participate only the trip.
The teacher will apply the short tearm financing for the Portugal trip. TAMK gives money only for it´s own students. That is the reason for that exchange students can not pariticipate to this trip. If they want to do that, they have to pay the trip themselves. Exchange students will get an assignment that replace the trip to Portugal.

Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student has achieved the objectives of the course sufficiently. Student understands the premises and principles of corporate responsibility. Student recognizes aspects of corporate responsibility.

Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student has achieved the objectives of the course well although the skills and competences are somewhat in need of further development. Student is able to determine and apply the concepts and models of corporate responsibility well and is able to conduct reasoned analysis.

Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)

Student has achieved the objectives of the course excellently. The student masters the concepts and models of corporate responsibility in an excellent manner. Student is able to conduct fluent and reasoned analysis and has good capabilities to apply the learning.
