Objectives (course unit)

In this course, the participants will gain an understanding of the sometimes-conflicting explanations of strategy, change and project management. The participants will examine both traditional and contemporary approaches to strategy. They will learn to apply the tools used to facilitate the implementation of change and come to appreciate that all changes are driven by strategic intent.

After completing the course, the participants will be able to:

- describe traditional and contemporary approaches to strategy  
- explain external and internal origins for change
- illustrate the core concepts of strategy, change and project management
- employ strategic planning tools to define the need for change
- plan and implement organizational change initiatives
- manage the scope, schedule and resources in waterfall and agile projects
- apply strategic action using  balanced scorecard

Content (course unit)

Strategic thinking, including traditional and contemporary approaches to strategy.
Managing in both predictable and turbulent environments.   
Analysis of strategic position using PESTEL and 5F tools  
Strategic decision making using BCG matrix and Strategy Clock   
Utilizing the Balanced Scorecard method to put strategy into action.
Manager centered and relationship centered approaches to change.
Methods to manage the scope, schedule and resources in waterfall and agile projects.
