Objectives (course unit)

1. Bachelor of Social Services and Disability Studies
Students
- can analyse myths, beliefs and preconceptions concerning disabilities, can help to face and analyse them, and can promote positive attitudes
- recognise their professional role in work with people with disabilities and can work in multi-professional networks
2. Disability Studies and Theoretical Principles
Students
- deepen their knowledge of disabilities, international norms, and declarations and their application
- are familiar with the historical principles and concepts of the field and sociological disability studies
- can analyse the social status of disabled people and promote equal possibilities on different levels
3. Methods of Client Work and Service Systems
Students
- know methods which promote autonomy, participation and equal rights of disabled people, the client’s awareness of own rights and obligations
- can give individual support and ensure that the client receives services guaranteed by the law
- can promote self-motivated life, positive identity, and development of self-esteem with people of different ages
- can give support to people who suddenly become disabled
- can apply different methods to support and promote functional ability and supported decision-making
- can promote inclusion in cultural activities, exercise and social interaction
- can support relationships with family, relatives and acquaintances
- are familiar with peer group activities and disability organizations
4. Special Issues
Students
- can search for information on special issues, such as need for support in living, working, adult day services, and early childhood education concerning different disability groups
- can apply legal use of restrictions if necessary and still maintain a professional and respectful attitude
