Objectives (course unit)
The student
-is able to communicate professionally with clients and families suffering from mental health and/or substance abuse problems;
-is able to identify mental health and substance abuse problems in basic health care by using common symptom measurement tools;
-is able to implement mini-intervention and motivational interview when encouraging life change of clients suffering from substance abuse;
-is able to identify patients' social life situation by using network map;
-implements the practical nursing process of patients with mental health and substance abuse problems by using nursing interventions of which the most essential is relationship-based care;
-is able to establish and maintain therapeutic rapport with the client;
-is able to use reflection and counselling as a support in his/her own professional growth;
-is able to act in interdisciplinary and multiprofessional collaboration in accordance with the needs of the patient and his/her significant others;
-is trained in medication administration as regards care of mental health and substance abuse patients;
-is able to report orally and in writing.
