Supervised clinical training, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Nursing (6 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The student
-is able to communicate professionally with clients and families suffering from mental health and/or substance abuse problems;
-is able to identify mental health and substance abuse problems in basic health care by using common symptom measurement tools;
-is able to implement mini-intervention and motivational interview when encouraging life change of clients suffering from substance abuse;
-is able to identify patients' social life situation by using network map;
-implements the practical nursing process of patients with mental health and substance abuse problems by using nursing interventions of which the most essential is relationship-based care;
-is able to establish and maintain therapeutic rapport with the client;
-is able to use reflection and counselling as a support in his/her own professional growth;
-is able to act in interdisciplinary and multiprofessional collaboration in accordance with the needs of the patient and his/her significant others;
-is trained in medication administration as regards care of mental health and substance abuse patients;
-is able to report orally and in writing.

-supervised clinical training in basic mental health and substance abuse services

Prerequisites (course unit)

alkuvaiheen opinnoista 50 op suoritettuna, sisältäen opintojakson lääkehoito ja lääkelaskut
osallistuminen mielenterveys- ja päihdehoitotyön opintojaksoon

Itsearviointi, ohjaajan ja opettajan tekemä arviointi

Teaching methods

Kliininen harjoittelu: oman ammatillisen kasvun reflektio (yksi reflektio koululla) ja työnohjaukselliset keskustelut sekä hoitosuhteeseen ja vuorovaikutukseen liittyvä kirjallinentehtävä harjoittelun aikana.

Student workload

Kliininen harjoittelu 6 op. Toteutuu 40 tunnin työviikkoina yhteensä 160 tuntia (4 viikkoa). Harjoittelun tunnit sisältävät ryhmäreflektion koululla kerran harjoittelun aikana (n. puolessa välissä harjoittelua). Reflektiopäiväkirjan ja tehtävän kirjoittaminen 1 t/viikko.

Content scheduling

Kliininen harjoittelu. Sisältää kliinisen harjoittelun mielenterveys- ja päihdehoitotyön työpaikoilla, ryhmäreflektiot, reflektiopäiväkirjatyöskentely.
