Objectives (course unit)

Students
- know the significance of longevity for an individual and society
- know the effects of longevity to the organ system and tissues as well as their connections to degenerative illnesses and functional ability
- know different ways of promoting elderly people’s health and functional ability
- know how exercises, intoxicants and nutrition affect the wellbeing and functional ability of an aging person
- know the most common illnesses and their effects to the functionality of the elderly
- know the typical medication for the most common illnesses
- have an understanding of the services directed for the elderly as part of the social service system
- know the possibilities offered by wellbeing technology and aids to support independent and functional daily living of the elderly
- are aware of the care and attention that elderly people need.
