Objectives (course unit)

The student will be able to:
• understand the basics of the Finnish legal system and use the main sources for legal information.
• know the basic rules regarding the different company types in Finland.
• discern the legal and fiscal responsibilities in running a business in Finland.
• know the basic process of drafting contracts and understand their validity and legality and the most important rules and principles with regard to consequences of breach of contract.
• take into account the basic regulation central to running a company in his/her own team enterprise.

Content (course unit)

How is the Finnish legal system structured and what are the main sources for legal information?
What legal and regulatory responsibilities are there in running an enterprise?
How to make binding contracts and what may follow from violating a contract?
What rules and regulations must be taken into account in business operations and customer relationships?

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

The student knows the meaning of the basic concepts related to business and contract law in Finland.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

The student has good understanding of the basic concepts related to business and contract law in Finland. The student is able to reflect on basic problems within the topic area and suggest and justify his/her solutions. The student is able to apply what he/she has learned in practice together with others.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

The student masters the basic concepts related to business and contract law in Finland. He/She is able to analyze practical problems within the topic area and suggest and justify solutions in a comprehensive manner. The student is able to search for and suggest alternative solutions to demanding legal or regulatory cases.
