Objectives (course unit)
Students
- know how to act in working life communication situations (e.g. telephone and e-mail communication)
- know the basic business terminology and can give a presentation of a chosen company
- know the most important vocabulary of their field of study
Content (course unit)
• working life communication situations
• business life English
• terminology of the students’ own field of study
• grammar as required
Prerequisites (course unit)
Basic language studies in English completed or equivalent skills
Exam schedules
Oral presentation during the course, written test on the last lesson.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course covers, Business terminology,basic business communication skills namley, email English, Presentation skills, Telephoning skills, intercultural communiation skills, giving instructions, manuals and professional vocabulary. Students will be required to present an article of choice in a group discussion.
80% attendance, 20% Company presentation skills, 20% Intercultural awareness, 20% Article presentation, 10% participation in class activities, 30% test

Discussions, Case study, presentations, role play, skills demonstration, collaborative learning etc.

Materials in Tabula and also in class.
Student workload
Students are required to take responsibility of their learning. They are to practice/reherse their presentations to improve quality of delivery, use the material provided to cover the course content.

To be discussed at the beginning of the course or thorugh AHOT accreditation.
Further information
Students, are required to research the company chosen for the company presentation, research a country of choice about how they do business(Inter-cultural communiation).
Students are required to practice/reherse their presentations improve quality of delivery.
Assessment criteria - fail (0) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
None of the oral presentation, less than 80% attendance, less than 50% score of the final test.
Assessment criteria - satisfactory (1-2) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
One or more of the oral presentations given. Students can communiate fluently with some help, 80% attendance, 50-60% score of the final test.
Assessment criteria - good (3-4) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
All the oral presentations given. Student is fluent with little or no help at all. 80% attendance, 60% -80% of the final score
Assessment criteria - excellent (5) (Not in use, Look at the Assessment criteria above)
Fluent with good selection of vocabulation and expressions. communicate fluently and accurrately with no help at all. 80% attendance, over 80% score of the final test.
