Objectives (course unit)

The students learn about the different parts of a paper machine, their operating conditions as well as the quality aims of paper production. The students understand the demands and characteristics placed on paper machine clothing. They know how the clothing behaves in different circumstances. The students learn the product structures and materials used in paper machine clothing. The students have an understanding of the problems paper machine clothing may cause. The students are able to use the literature and electric information sources of the industry.

Content (course unit)

Paper machine clothing manufacturers and their supply and services. The conditions when manufacturing paper, financial and quality aims of making paper. Wet and drying screen, pressure felting and belts and their materials, structures and functions in paper manufacturing. The quality demands placed on the paper machine clothing, the desired characteristics and how the characteristics change during use. Introduction to problems caused by the clothing during paper and cardboard manufacturing.
