Objectives (course unit)

The students know the aims of coating and the demands the coating and different printing methods place on the paper. The students know different coating processed, coating machines and how the drying of coating affects the end product. The course strengthens the students’ professional development.

Content (course unit)

Coating raw materials: pigments, binders and auxiliary substances and handling them. Making coating colour formulas, rheological characteristics of coating colour and how to affect them. Coated paper and paperboard types and the demanded characteristics from the formula viewpoint. Different coating methods (blade coating, film coating, non-contact coating) and their usages. Drying strategy of coating. Manufacturing intelligent products by using coating.
