Objectives (course unit)
The student
-is capable of asking, when conducting a patient interview, relevant questions relating to the patient’s previous health;
-can inform patients about the most common nursing practices, procedures and ward routines;
-can communicate in English as part of a multi-professional care team;
-understands and can use articles and texts in the field;
-can further develop his/her English skills in the field by effectively using dictionaries and other language learning tools.

Evaluation methods and criteria
Active participation in planning the learning process and working during the course, written and oral assignments, self-assessment, and exam. Minimum attendance to contact lessons 80%. Giving course feedback is required for completing the course.

- can write his/her thesis in English but has problems with grammar and style
- can use references but makes mistakes frequently
- can search for information in scientific publications and other professional sources but has problems in interpreting and utilising it
- is somewhat able to write a structured essay in academic problem based style but has problems with grammar, style and argumentation
- is acquainted with some customs of negotiation, meeting and conference skills
- is somewhat able to operate in negotiations, meetings and conferences, but does not know how to use different strategies to reach his/her aims
- is somewhat able to communicate using different styles, but does not know how to use different registers or how to take into account the details of the interaction situation
- knows some ways to develop his/her professional language skills and language learning skills further by utilising different tools and strategies

- can write his/her thesis grammatically fairly well and knows most relevant stylistical aspects
- can use references mostly correctly
- can search for information in scientific publications and other professional sources and knows how to interpret and utilise most of it
- is able to write a fairly structured, illustrative and argumentative essay in academic problem based style
- is acquainted with the customs of negotiation, meeting and conference skills
- is able to operate in negotiations, meetings and conferences using some strategies to reach his/her aims
- is able to communicate using different styles and takes into account some details of the interaction situation
- knows how to develop his/her professional language skills and language learning skills further by utilising different tools and strategies
