Objectives
Students can identify the forest site types and peatland site types and soil types in the field. Students can analyse properties and site factors and use this information in making silvicultural decisions. The students understand the factors which influence the growth of a tree and a tree stand. Students can measure the volume and growth of a tree stand and can use the measuring tools used in forest mensuration.
Content
Classification of forest site types, classification of peatland site types, soil types and and their identification, physical and chemical properties of forest soils, climate and microclimate, basics of peatland ecology, mensuration of single tree and forest stand.
