Objectives

Students are familiar with key theories, concepts and research methods regarding the self and identity. Students are able to examine the ways in which people experience themselves in different public and social situations and the ways in which the self and identity inform action, experiences and well-being. Students are able to employ the concepts of the self and identity in order to analyse and interpret the social world.

Content

The module examines key theories regarding identity and the self and their research tradition. The module explains how the self and identity are formed at different life stages, the cultural, situational and social contexts of the self and identity, and their connection to well-being, action and lifestyle.
