Objectives

Students are able to define the field of social sciences. They identify and are able to conceptualise social phenomena in relation to social science research. They are able to define and employ social science concepts. Students are able to summarise scientific texts and distinguish between their own ideas and the ideas expressed in the source material.

Content

The module provides an introduction to the foundations of social sciences. It discusses society and its nature, as well as the conceptualisations of society. Depending on the mode of study, the core elements of the module may be, for example, social science thinking, social divisions, transnationalism, interaction, gender, well-being, social action, work and different life stages.
