Objectives
After completing the course, the student is able to- design typical steel structures according to the Eurocode: beams, columns, trusses, braces, and simple joints.- design load-bearing steel frames as structural systems with appropriate bracing
Content
Principles of steel frames as structural systemsModelling and analysis of steel frames, second order effects in structural analysisDesign of tubular trussesStability of steel members: compression and bending, lateral-torsional bucklingConnections of steel structures: classification, design of simple joints, column base joints.Design of steel members: cross-section class 4, torsionDesign of welded steel membersCosts and environmental impact of steel structuresHigh-strength steels in construction
Prerequisites
RAK.RS.220 Introduction to timber and steel structures, or similar background on basics of steel structures
